B. O. A. T. (C. Long)  Everybody who owns a boat knows this adage, along with the one that defines a boat as “a hole in the water into which you throw money.”  Another favorite from my racing days is, “Racing sailboats is like standing in an ice-cold shower shoving $20 bills down the drain.”

Sample Lyrics

Captain George  (C. Long) A tongue-in-cheek tribute to the the first guy to "sail the Salish Sea."  (As far as I know, the local Native Americans relied on paddles rather than sails.  They knew what they were doing!)

Sample Lyrics

Sailing to Win (C. Long)  In my younger, angrier, days I was incensed by the way the media ignored yacht racing.  The local paper refused to publish our race results in the sports section, claiming that sailboat racing wasn’t sport because it didn’t involve a ball.  I couldn’t change the public perception so I decided to write a song about it instead.

Sample Lyrics

My Dreamtime (C. Long) I like songs that work on different levels.  This one could be about someone's dreams.  In my case, it's more than that.  Serious boaters have a relationship with their boats that non-boaters can never understand.  Your boat becomes part of who you are.

Sample Lyrics

Soul of a Sailor. (K. Chensey, D. Dillon, S. Emerick) A beautiful song by Kenny Chesney that pretty much says it all.

Another Cruise from Hell (C. Long)  The sequel, by popular demand!

Sample Lyrics

Sunset (C. Long)  In 2007, we were seduced by the power of the Dark Side.  Selling our beloved Newport 30 after 32 years as sailboaters was a tough decision.  This song is my homage to old Second Sun, wherever she may be.  This is another one of those songs that works on more than one level.  This song could be about lost love, not a boat.

Sample Lyrics

The Liveaboard Blues  (C. Long) I know a lot of folks who’ve lived aboard.  It’s great in Florida, Hawaii, and SoCal.  Cold, rainy Pacific Northwest winters...not so great.

Sample Lyrics

Mr. Murphy  (C. Long) Everyone’s favorite crewman, who goes along on every cruise or race.

Sample Lyrics

Boats (K. Chensey, D. Dillon, S. Emerick) Another wonderful tune by Kenny Chesney, a guy who clearly understands the "boating addiction."

Smiles (C. Long)  This one has absolutely nothing to do with boating.  It’s just the first “serious” song I ever wrote, way back in 1972, and it was a chance to get Arianna's voice out front.  She's only 16, but I think you'll agree she's "got the chops."

Sample Lyrics

Back When You Were Here (C. Long)  In memory of Jeff Long, 1981-2005.  I tell everyone that this is, on the surface, a song about lost love.  Those who know Diane and me know that there is a much deeper meaning.  Don't ever let anyone tell you that depression isn't a "real disease."  It robbed us of our son.
